Buddy Bike News - April 2012
What are we up to?

It's been a while since I've reached out to let you know what we've been up to at Buddy Bike. This year has had a quiet start but we've got several things in the works.

For our current customers, I just want to remind you to read your Owner's Manuals carefully. They contain useful information such as "DO NOT MOUNT your bicycle with the kickstand engaged." Although our bi-pod kickstands seem durable, they are intended to hold the weight of the bicycle only, no riders! And have you checked our Products page lately? We have added new items to our Accessories Section. A couple low-cost additions include Axel Release to convert the rear wheel to quick release which would make rear wheel maintenance easier on any of our internal hub bikes (BB100, BB101 or Family models) and Pedal Extenders which offer more rear rider knee room and comfort for all of our bike models.

If you are considering a Buddy Bike purchase, our re-formatted Dealers Page can help you find a dealer and demo bikes near you while our Choose the Right Bike-Side-by-Side Model Comparison will help you choose the right bike model for your family's needs. All models are currently in stock but inventory is limited on Buddy Bike Family Limited Edition and Buddy Bike Sport 27-speed! We're ordering new inventory for 2013 including Buddy Bike Sport equipped with NuVinci N360 drivetrain as featured on our Buddy Bike Family Limited Edition. If you are in Florida or California, check out our demo bikes for sale.

Here's what's happening...

Adaptive Cycling Roundtable at Recumbent Cycle-Con
October 26-28, 2012 - Pomona, CA
Mark your calendars for the 2nd Annual Recumbent Cycle-Con. This event offers a chance to see and try a variety of recumbent and other alternative bicycles and it is loads of fun! Buddy Bike will soon begin planning the 2012 Adaptive Cycling Roundtable to be held at Recumbent Cycle-Con. Last year's roundtable began the conversation about how we could help more cyclists obtain adaptive and alternative cycling equipment and we hope to continue that conversation this year while recording this session so everyone can benefit from the information.

Adaptive Cycling Exchange
Coming soon! A web resource called the Adaptive Cycling Exchange at The concept for this web site was created by the participants of last year's Adaptive Cycling Roundtable at Recumbent Cycle-Con. Plans for this web site are to create a resource that will help adaptive cyclists find the equipment, bike shops and funding resources to fulfill their cycling needs. We also hope to educate bike shop professionals in how to best serve the needs of their adaptive cycling customers while educating medical professionals in the benefits of cycling for their patients. If you would like to contribute to the development of this resource you can contact or join our online conversation at our LinkedIn group called Adaptive Cycling Exchange.

Seeking logo ideas! We need logo ideas for the Adaptive Cycling Exchange. Please submit your ideas or designs to This is a non-profit effort.

Medicare Application In Progress
Over the years, many of our customers have used Medicaid Waivers and other medical funds to purchase the Buddy Bike as therapeutic equipment. In order to help more families, I am applying for Buddy Bike to become a Medicare Provider. I hope that this will make it easier for families to use their funds to obtain Buddy Bikes. It has been a slow-going and complex procedure but I will keep you informed of that progress.

Happy Cycling!
